Alex Bellini,
the Shark, the VATNAJÖKULL

200km trail
into the hearth of the island

This story begins with an adventurer and a Shark walking with a sled across Europe’s largest glacier: the Vatnajökull. This ice cap is in danger.

Follow them on a fascinating journey through volcanoes, canyons, valleys and northern lights, and help them freeze Vatnajökull majesty, one breathtaking moment at a time.

Climate Change and Global Warming

Vital Signs
from the PLANET

Formed thousands of years ago, Vatnajökull is by far the largest glacier in Iceland and the largest glacier mass in all of Europe. It covers an area of roughly 8,000 km2 and is almost 1000 m thick at its deepest point, with an average thickness of 500 m and a total ice volume of 3300 cubic kilometers. Vatnajökull is in danger.

Recent studies have demonstrated that the Arctic is warming twice as fast as any other place on Earth. If the climate continues to warm up, the Icelandic glaciers will completely disappear in 200 years. We need to stop the pace of the climate change before it’s too late. Before there will be no more Vatnajökull to cross.

Alex Bellini

The Adventurer

Born in a small village of the Alps 39 years ago, Alex Bellini has never stopped exploring himself and the world. He has rowed solo across two oceans, covering more than 35,000 km, walked polar routes totaling 2,000 km, and ran on different terrains for a grand total of 20.000 km.

Travelling around the world, he has explored the most different environments. He has tasted profound solitude and discomfort. He has met extreme cold and dealt with the most scorching heat, always carrying the humility and the courage that turned him into one of the most interesting adventurers on the planet.

HIS LIFE AND HIS ADVENTURES ARE THE EVIDENCE THAT EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE, IF YOU ARE WILLING TO RECOGNIZE YOUR LIMITS WITHOUT GIVING UP THE CHANCE TO MOVE A STEP FORWARD, BEYOND THE HORIZON OF YOUR OWN FEAR.
